Selected as member of Iowa Republican State Central Committee in 1930. Served as a member of the Board of Control of State Institutions from 1931 to 1939. Member of the Methodist church, a thirty-second degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of Indianola Rotary club. Serving third term. Speaker of the House Fifty-first General Assembly.
