Mediapolis Des Moines County Republican Born February 3, 1902, Webster, Iowa, son of Rev. Andrew M. and Mary Ellen Kile Smith. Graduated New London high school, 1919; Bachelor of Arts, Iowa Wesleyan college, Mt. Pleasant, 1924; Master of Arts, University of Iowa, 1937. Married Elizabeth Grace Jones, 1934. Three daughters: Marilyn Joy, Walda Elizabeth, and Margaret Ellen. Served as superintendent of Lake township (Dickens), Crawfordsville, and Mediapolis schools. Owner and publisher of Mediapolis New Era since 1942. Active in civic affairs. Past president of Mediapolis Chautauqua association. Member Sigma Phi Epsilon and Pi Kappa Delta fraternities, Masonic lodge, and Methodist church. Serving first term in House of Representatives.
