Grinnell Poweshiek County Republican April 15, 1877 - August 20, 1947 Born at Pleasant Grove, Des Moines county, Iowa, April 15, 1877, son of Robertson and Rosa Minard Gannaway. Graduated from Grinnell college in 1902; graduate student at Grinnell, 1902-1903; fellow in political science at University of Wisconsin, 1903-1905; chief editorial writer on the Milwaukee Journal, 1905-1908. Member of Grinnell college faculty from 1909 to time of retirement in 1944, being head of the department of political science from 1912 to 1944. Married to Mary Helen McIntosh of Grinnell, October 24, 1906. Three sons, John W., Jr., Robertson R., and William A. Member of the Congregational church, Farm Bureau, Sigma Delta Chi, Masonic lodge, chapter, council and consistory. Grand Master of Masons in Iowa, 1930-1931. Serving first team at the time of his death in a Grinnell hospital after an illness of several weeks.
