Cresco Howard County Democrat Born at Cresco, Iowa, October 7, 1897, son of Alfred E. and Ella (Waite) Bents, early pioneer settler of Howard county. Educated in Cresco public schools and spent entire life in fruit growing and nursery business which was started by his father in 1877. Member Congregational church, A.F. & A.M. and Royal Arch Mason, Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau. Has had life-time interest in conservation and the out-of-doors. Member of Out-Doors Writers' Association. Wrote for State Conservation Commission and was appointed a member of the commission by Governor Wilson. Also served on Iowa Agriculture Planning Committee. Won Tri-State trapshooting- crown '29, '30 and '32, and Iowa championship 1943. Married to Sadie Evans of Lanesboro, Minnesota, in 1932, and they have two children, Cheryl Ann, 11, and Jimmie Bill, 9.
