Newton Jasper County Democrat Charles P. Starrett, born in Jasper county on a farm near Newton in 1884. Attended country school and studied Civil Engineering at Highland Park college, Des Moines, Iowa. Interested in farming all his life, owns and operates two at present. Member of the Methodist Church, several Masonic bodies. K.P. of P. lodge, master of Iowa State Grange for several years. In field service of the American Red Cross, serving in Army hospitals in World War I. Circulation manager of the Newton Daily News for 23 years. Married to Mabel Squires and has one son, Harry.
