Graduated Phillips Exeter academy 1939, Dartmouth college 1943 and University of Iowa law college 1948. Served in United States navy 1943-1946 in Pacific and European theaters. Married 1947 to Allegra Willis. Father of one son and one daughter. Practitioner of law in Des Moines. Member of Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Delta Phi, Congregational church. Recipient of Distinguished Service award for community service in Des Moines, 1952. Serving first term.
