Sioux City Woodbury County Republican Born at Charter Oak, Crawford County, Iowa, 1895, the son of Carl August and Hilma Carlson. With his parents he moved to Worthington, Minnesota, in 1896, to Sioux City in 1900 and to a farm in Woodbury county in 1902. In 1917, he enlisted in the United States Air Service, serving nine months overseas with the 838th Aero Squadron attached to the Royal Air Force. Received honorable discharge in 1918 at Camp Dodge, returning to Sioux City and entering automobile business and later the oil business. Married Esther Carlson, now deceased, in 1922, and is the father of two children, Dorothy L. (deceased), and Robert W. Carlson. Was city assessor of Sioux City 1947-48. Member of the First Covenant church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Thirty-second degree Mason, Shrine, Lions Club, Moose Lodge and Scandinavian Societies. Member of the 49th, 50th, 50th Extra, 51st and 55th General Assemblies.
