Centerville Appanoose County Born Centerville, July 17, 1915, son of Edna and Jesse M. Beck. Attended Centerville high school and Iowa Wesleyan University, graduating 1937 with B.A. degree. Served editorial, later advertising departments Centerville Daily Iowegian. Became general manager 1942, co-publisher 1945. Associated with Oceanside, California Daily Blade-Tribune 1943. Became president of Centerville Broadcasting Co., Inc., 1948, president of Numa Products, Inc., a broiler raising enterprise, 1951. Entered U.S. Naval Reserve October 1942 serving 28 months aboard the U.S.S. South Dakota in Atlantic, Pacific theater, participating in nine major sea engagements. Discharged October 1945 as Lieutenant. Married June 24, 1939 to Charlotte Allen. Three children, Tom, Barbara, Martha. Has served as president of Centerville Chamber of Commerce, Lions club, Country club, Library board. Member of Elks, Masons, American Legion, V.F.W., Methodist church. Delegate to Methodist Jurisdictional Conference at Milwaukee, 1952.
