Married in Chicago, Illinois on October 17, 1926 to Miss Louise C. Richert of Bloomington, Illinois. One son, attorney, Douglas J. Burris of Maquoketa, Iowa. Came to Maquoketa, Iowa May 1, 1927. Served as deputy Treasurer for two terms and as Treasurer of Jackson county for three terms. Owned and operated a restaurant for twenty years. Was elected to the House of Representatives and served in the 53rd, 54th, and 57th General Assemblies. Appointed by Governor Loveless, 1957.

Came to Maquoketa, Iowa, May 1, 1927. Served as deputy treasurer for two terms, and as treasurer for three terms in Jackson county. Retired from politics in 1946 to assist his wife in management of the Decker House Coffee Shop in Maquoketa. Re-entered politics in 1948, and was elected Representative from Jackson county on the Democratic ticket. Was returned for a second term as Jackson county Representative in the 54th General Assembly.
