Active in Republican party since 1951. Served 37 months in U.S. Army; 24 months as a paratrooper. Entered as a private and discharged as First Lieutenant of Infantry. Married Mary E. Moore, Hazleton, 1957; daughter, Dyna Marie, 18 months. Member of Methodist church, Farm Bureau, Lions Club, and Masonic Lodge. Elected State Representative in 1956, and re-elected in 1958.

College at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Political columnist for Oelwein Register and other newspapers 1951-54. Organizer and first chairman of Fayette county young republicans, 1951. Worked at Republican National Convention in Chicago, 1952. Member of Pi Kappa Delta and holder of speech trophy. Veteran and ex-paratrooper. Entered U. S. Army in 1953 as private; mustered out as First Lieutenant, January 1956. On regimental and division staffs of 187th and 503rd Airborne Infantry regiments and 11th and 101st airborne divisions. Directed national publicity on largest arctic paratrooper maneuver in history, Alaska, 1955. Publisher-editor of Fayette County Leader and Maynard News. Sunday school teacher and former scoutmaster. Member of Methodist church, American Legion, Oelwein Jaycees, Fayette Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, Airborne Association, R.O.A., Republican Veterans, Iowa Press, National Editorial Association, Masonic lodge. First term.
