Born March 20, 1814, in Fluvanna County, Virginia. At an early age he moved with his father’s family to Washington County, Tennessee. His education was largely secured in that state, although it was supplemented by a course of study in Kentucky, where he began the study and practice of medicine. Later, becoming dissatisfied with the working of the old school, he removed to Cincinnati and began the study of the botanic system, which he practiced the remainder of his life. He again returned to Tennessee, and finally removed to Frankfort, Indiana, where he resided two years. In 1837, Myers moved to Burlington, Iowa, and then on to Fairfield in 1846. He was married four times, and was the father of 20 children. He died June 2, 1887, in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa.
