Attended rural schools, graduated from Guthrie County High School; extension work, Iowa State University. World War I Veteran (88th Division). Married Bessie L. Miller Dec. 11, 1920. Parents of seven children: Donald J., Robert E., Marjorie J. Slaybaugh, Paul V., Mary E. Joyce, Betty J. Parks, and Patricia A. Brubaker. Fourteen grandchildren. Sons in World War II and Korean conflict. Farming 1921-1946; specialty Purebred Durocs. Active in church, fraternal and civic organizations. Member Methodist Church, Masons, Des Moines Consistory and Za-Ga-Zig Temple, American Legion, WWI, Inc., I.O.O.F., O.E.S, Rebekahs, Lions, Izaak Walton, Farm Bureau. Present interests: justice of the peace, insurance. Served in 57th, 58th, 59th and 60th General Assemblies.
