Past Union County CROP director; former assistant county Farm Security Administration loan officer; past president, Creston Chamber of Commerce; past president of Crestmoor Golf Club; president of Creston Industries, Inc.; director of Creston Development Corp.; past chairman Group 5 Iowa Bankers Association; vice president for Iowa of American Bankers Assoc; executive councilman for Iowa of American Bankers Association 1958-1961. Member of Presbyterian Church. Member of Union County Farm Bureau, Masons, Shrine, American Legion, VFW, Elks and Eagles. Married Rachael Emerson in 1943. Three children; Joseph R., 18; Barbara Ann, 15; and Karl W., 13. Enlisted apprentice seaman in U.S. Coast Guard in May, 1942; commissioned U.S.N.R. Feb., 1943; discharged November, 1945. Serving second term in house.
