In February, 1918, became affiliated with Carl Reuber Motor Company, at Schaller, Iowa. Was owner of Ford agency from 1929 to 1938. Is licensed real estate broker. Served with the Iowa Department of Agriculture from 1939 to 1953. Married Elizabeth E Robinson, of Schaller, May 28, 1934, and is the father of two children: Byford D., age 27, who is principal of the high school at Scranton, Iowa, and L. Joan, age 24, who is teaching at a Presbyterian boys school in Memphis, Tenn. Moved from Schaller to farm near Alta in 1946, and has been engaged in farming since 1954. Member of Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Shrine. Serving fourth term.

Operated real estate brokerage in early thirties. Served with the Iowa Department of Agriculture from 1939 to 1953. He was married to Elizabeth E. Robinson, of Schaller, May 28, 1934, and is the father of two children, Byford D., age twenty-one, a student at Buena Vista College, of Storm Lake, and L. Joan, age eighteen, attending the University of South Dakota, at Vermillion, South Dakota. Moved from Schaller to farm near Alta in 1946, and has been engaged in live stock and grain farming there since 1954. Active in Republican party in Sac and Buena Vista counties. He attends the Presbyterian church and is a member of various Masonic bodies. Serving first term.
