Born on June 2, 1800, at Charlotte, Chittenden County, Vermont, the second surviving son of Joseph and Huldah Hoag. He was a Quaker preacher and also served as postmaster in Jackson Township in 1848. He had been married twice, his first wife died in 1823 and his second in 1853. Mr. Hoag was a delegate to the 1844 Iowa Constitutional Convention representing Henry County. He also resided in Mahaska County in this state and removed to Muscatine County in 1875. Mr. Hoag died March 22, 1880, in Muscatine at the residence of his son J.J. Hoag.
