Convention Member Lyman Evans
Born at Salem, New York, October 5, 1791. Mr. Evans came to Iowa in 1838, and settled in what later became Clinton County. That county was organized March 1, 1840, and its first election was held at the home of Lyman Evans on April 6, 1840. Mr. Evans was also a member of the Iowa constitutional convention which convened at Iowa City Oct. 7, 1844, and was in session until November 1, of same year. He and Ralph R. Benedict represented Clinton County. Mr. Evans died August 11, 1873, at DeWitt, Iowa.
