Born on May 1, 1775, in Bourbon County, Kentucky and came to Ohio with his father’s family. He married Esther Pogue, August 13, 1805, and in the year 1806 came to Eaton, Ohio. Mr. Hawkins was Clerk of Preble County, Ohio, Court in 1824. He came to Iowa in 1838, where he was a member of the Iowa Territorial Legislature representing Henry County in 1839-40. Mr. Hawkins was also a delegate to the 1844 Iowa Constitutional Convention held in Iowa City. He died March 12, 1849, and is buried in Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton, Ohio.
