This is a common sense bill. It allows parents to know their options and it will prevent school nurses/admins from extra paperwork they encounter yearly when trying to round up immunizations & exemptions. When schools use the slogan "no shots, no school" they are spreading misinformation. Exemptions are allowed under iowa law and we must clarify that in clear wording (not just mentioning code numbers that they won't look up).

It should be considered common knowledge that the "no shots no school" is a lie and extremely misleading however most parents are not aware at all. Parent MUST know that they have the right to an exemption (by law) in Iowa. Such an important piece of legislation for our state.

I support this bill. Public schools, Daycares and public health need to stop intentionally misleading parents about what the law is. This bill offers transparency in what parents options actually are in Iowa. It will help eliminate the discrimination parents face when wanting to utilize an exemption in daycares that accept public funding, they can't be told "we don't accept those" when they're required to acknowledge they do in their paperwork. This has been an ongoing problem for years and it's nice to see a bill finally addressing it.
