This bill is great and I do believe radiologists practicing in rural areas should be allowed to participate in the rural repayment program. However, it is very common in the practice of radiology to not live where you practice and to read and interpret imaging from facilities that are not near you. The images are sent via a healthcare record system that the radiologist remotely connects to. I believe the bill should specify that the radiologist must also hold primary residence in or near a rural area that practicing in would qualify them for rural repayment. Otherwise, we may have radiologists living in Des Moines that practice remotely and read/interpret imaging for small county hospitals/clinics as part of the repayment program. That is good, however, that person likely also reads/interprets imaging for more populated areas and notably wouldn't be contributing to the economy of the small areas by being a resident, which is likely part of the goal with our rural repayment programs for physicians. Thank you for your time.
