Alimyon Allen [Susan G. Komen]
On behalf of Susan G. Komen, we support the proposed legislation HF 71, on diagnostic imaging that could benefit thousands of Iowans who are at higher risk of breast cancer or those requiring follow up imaging due to an abnormal mammogram result are burden with immoderate patient cost sharing. An estimated 1216 percent of patients who receive annual screening mammograms get called back for diagnostic imaging. HF 71 would eliminate this disparity in coverage. In Iowa, over 3,010 women are estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and 370 will die of the disease this year alone. Support for HF 71 is urgent, Komen continues to support Iowans through public policy advocacy, in addition to providing a broad suite of direct patient services and investments in breakthrough research.
