This is a good addition to the code but should there be some exclusion for when hand counting is used?

Electronic versions of all voter records can and should be preserved for at least 10 years. There is no reason to destroy/delete records in the 22month time period. The records can and should be used for research, and available for at least two Presidential Election cycles.

We do need to capture this information because when doing research currently, we cannot match the counts from the voter rolls to those reported in an election total as the voter rolls are constantly being altered. Example, if someone who voted in the last election died shortly after and was removed from the voter rolls, the count will never match up by examining the voter rolls to the counts presented by the State/County. Having a snapshot would fix this problem. The idea of creating a ballot log would be great and even better if it allows citizens to request any of the information that does not violate a person's privacy.

These new additions help strengthen our current system. A lot of hard work has been done by Senator Salmon working with our team and many people working on election integrity this year.I urge you to pass this for the sake of fair elections for all Iowans. As anything laws need to be updated when necessary. It has been found from the work done that it is reasonable for the commissioner to keep records for 22mos for example.Thank you for your consideration.
