Margaret Buckton [Urban Education Network and Rural School Advocates of Iowa]
Both the Urban Education Network and the Rural School Advocates of Iowa are registered in support of this bill. First, the bill increases the threshold of income a retiree may make from an IPERs employer without consequences to $50,000. This will help schools with recruiting retirees to be substitutes, bus drivers and teachers. Secondly, the bill increases the level of a contract or compensation that a school board member can make up to $20,000. We also support this flexibility as school board members can sometimes fill in as substitutes, bus drivers, etc., all of which are in short supply. We encourage you to move this bill forward.
