On behalf of the Humane Society of the United States and our thousands of supporters and members throughout the state of Iowa, I urge the subcommittee for HSB161 to amend the bill to not permit wagering on international greyhound racing.International greyhound racing tracks, notably those in Mexico and Vietnam, are consistently noted be to problematic from an animal welfare standard. The Iowa legislature should not give its mark of approval for these tracks.As more people in our state speak up every day asking for stronger animal welfare protections in our state and indeed, the Iowa legislature and Governor Reynolds passed HF737 into law in 2020, advancing Iowas animal welfare standards for the first time in years the legislature should not make it easier for Iowans funding to support cruel industries overseas. Again, I urge the subcommittee to amend HSB161 to not permit wagering on international greyhound racing.
