The Iowa Catholic Conference is registered in support of the bill. The federal government in the Big bill last year passed a new Education Freedom Tax Credit of $1,700 per taxpayer for donations to K12 scholarship funds for public school or private school or home school. Funds raised can be made available by scholarship granting organizations to students from a household with income not greater than 300% of the areas median gross income. States have to optin for the program to operate in the state and the purpose of this bill is to require the governor to do so.I also would note that the explanation of this bill is mistaken. The $1,700 mentioned is the maximum federal tax credit for donors, not the maximum amount for the scholarship. Thank you.

Yet another needless tax giveaway that will make our public schools and hence state economy poorer. No on HF 2308.
