Students in nurse practitioner programs have difficulty finding preceptors. It takes a considerable amount of time to help these students learn. Currently, nurse practitioners take on students out of the goodness of their hearts. It is time to incentivize nurse practitioners to help the next generation. This will help relieve the shortage of healthcare providers in Iowa.

I support this bill as the ARNP Tax Credit will ultimately increase access to healthcare for Iowans.ARNP students are not only tasked with the schooling and clinicals, but also with trying to find nurse practitioners who are willing to train them. Anyone who has done any sort of training understands that taking on a student is a commitment.Here's the catch: nurse practitioners who take on students are currently recieving nothing in compensation for the time and energy they provide.This is a step towards both giving back and encouraging ARNPs to be preceptors for the students.In a state like Iowa where ARNPs are much needed for our rural community, this bill will benefit the people of Iowa by increasing ARNP students and thus increasing access to care.
