I'm opposed to Division XI of SSB 3034, which changes three county positions from being ELECTED by the people, to being APPOINTED by the county Board of Supervisors. The three positions are the County Auditor, County Treas, and County Recorder. These three roles oversee important government functions in the county such as elections, financial records, public land records, vital birth, death and marriage records, collecting property taxes, managing driver's licenses, and management and disbursement of public funds. These are positions that need to be accountable to the people, not appointed by the Board of Supervisors in the county. This provision is usurping local control. Please delete Division XI from this bill.

The proposed 444.25 doesn't account for inflation or economic or population growth. Given that the rate is below normal inflation, it will force cuts in services. If this can't be amended to address these concerns, it should be struck.444.26 doesn't allow for local emergencies or conditions, and should be struck.Division IV will continue making our public schools worse, and should be struck. All of the above will drive more people out of our state, or prevent them from moving here, further weakening Iowa's already abysmal economic growth if they remain in the bill. The objective of more homeownership in Division IX would be better met by raising the minimum wage so people can afford houses directly.Division XI is an unnecessary and unfortunate attack on local control and our local elections, and should be struck.
