Vote NO on HSB 709. "ICN is Iowa's statewide fiber network, spanning all 99 counties. We provide critical services to Public Safety, Education, Healthcare, and Government." Our state is having trouble enough for the entities listed (especially Healthcare) without adding private monopoly rates for internet access to their woes. In particular, telemedicine relies on this network, and is going to be more important than ever given our rural hospital closures. Finally, this sort of selling public property to private monopolies is precisely the mistake that the Russians made, and it isn't going well for them.
