This bill strips cities' voting authority would subordinate them to the Board of Supervisors, elevating the board to "supermember" status with unilateral veto power over commissionapproved budgets. This is extremely damaging to city members, who represent the vast majority of the county's population and assessed property value. Each of the elected Mayors' votes would be nullified by a single entity's override. City leaders would lose meaningful influence over critical decisions, such as budgeting for emergency preparedness, training, and response. Currently, commissions adopt budgets in open meetings under Chapter 24, with full transparency and public input. A veto would allow supervisors to rewrite these after a democratic vote, disregarding city perspectives and undermining the statutory balance. This erodes taxpayer accountability, as city residentswho pay the lion's share of taxeswould see their representatives sidelined.
