I respect that your clerk is intelligent, skilled, and experienced. Nonetheless, that doesn't automatically qualify them to practice law. I do know that there are other states (Virginia for example) that allow people to "read the law" on their own time and take the bar exam. You may wish to look into those.

The conventional avenue for entry into the practice of law is designed to ensure all attorneys have the rigorous training and testing required by law school and the bar exam . To simply allow a staffer or legislator with ten years experience to practice law doesnt ensure this . It is . doubtful whether many or indeed any other states permit this method of gaining admittance to practice law .

AGAINST. Please vote NO on SF 2171. Why on earth would it be acceptable to practice law without attending law school? WHO IS ASKING FOR THIS?!? WHO IS THIS HELPING?!? Will it help Iowans be better represented in court and legal cases? This bill is extremely irresponsible and honestly terrifying to think that it's even being discussed. DO BETTER.
