I urge the committee to vote NO on HSB 669. The bill would legalize all kinds of abuse against trans youth, including conversion therapy. Conversion therapy is an incredibly harmful practice condemned by every major medical and psychiatric association including the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the National Association of Social Workers, and the American School Counselor Association. Conversion therapy is ineffective at changing sexual orientation or gender identity, and increases risk of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, homelessness, and suicide for its victims. HSB 669 aims to harm trans youth, and it should not be allowed to become law.
