Vote NO to SSB3009. Its quite obvious what county pushed for this legislation. One only has to look at the list of lobbyists. The government entities behind these lobbyists are too chicken to come out as FOR the legislation and show their true reasons. This is about tax levies and taxing authority. The townships have been lazy and not exercised the authority they have for a say in fire protection services and emergency medical services, and muscles not exercised are lost. It took 65 pages to wipe out a government body that was once superior to counties. This is government wishing to consolidate power. On the effective date of this section of this act, each county shall take ownership of the funds and property. I am not even going to address the stewards of cemeteries that find they must take action before this act goes into effect and the counties take ownership. This act will give the county power to sell property currently owned by a cemetery on they take possession.
