AGAINST. This bill amends existing educational provisions for students in grades nine through twelve by allowing instruction in technology, engineering, or manufacturing to count towards fulfilling a portion of the unit requirements for computer science. Specifically, it introduces a new framework where onehalf unit of computer science can incorporate standards related to applied sciences, technology, engineering, or manufacturing, which may be offered through dedicated coursework or integrated into existing courses that meet other educational requirements. The problem is that technology, engineering, and manufacturing courses won't necessarily include the same information as a dedicated computer science courses will. It's important that our students are taught about this information in today's age of digital advancements and AI. Please prioritize preparing our children with digital literacy for today's world and do not pass this bill.
