Dispensing prescription medications with labels patients can't read is negligent and dangerous. Would you accept a medication from your pharmacist without being able to read the label? What if you forget the instructions? How do you request refills or even know if there are refills?Individuals who have vision loss, are blind or have a reading disability should not be at risk for serious illness or death because their medication labels are inaccessible. Pharmacies in Iowa are dispending prescription medications to patients who can't read the label due to vision loss, reading disability, or language barrier. The pharmacies refuse to participate in programs like ScripTalk from Envision due to the cost of equipment and accessible labels. PLEASE pass this bill to allow insurance reimbursement to pharmacies so every patient can safely and independently take prescription medication.
