HSB 501 in its current form recognizes the science of which gender has capacity for pregnancy. It doesn't recognize the science of life beginning at conception and only classifies termination of pregnancy as a felony if done without consent of the pregnant female or with consent of the pregnant female if done after the second trimester.Either terminating pregnancy is feticide or it isn't. This bill is suspended in between the two positions. Amend this bill to remove "end of the second trimester" in paragraph 1 and 2. Replace with "conception"Amend this bill to remove ", with the knowledge and voluntary consent of the pregnant female, who is not a person licensed to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery under chapter 148" in paragraph 3.How ironic to recognize science while denying science... This double standard is why we are losing the life argument. Fight for the unborn! End abortion now.

Thank you for bringing this bill forward as it makes a small change to correct Iowa code to match biological reality and respect women. Only biological females can be pregnant and this is an important change to ensure women are protected and not erased. Terminology matters. As an Iowan, who is a woman and a mother, I appreciate the efforts in the last several years to protect women and this bill continues that course. Please pass this bill on to the full Committee.
