OPPOSE SF180! And when you reschedule meetings, you better carry over the previous comments. This is shady af knowing I submitted comments earlier today that are now gone because the meeting was rescheduled.

As an Iowa medical student, I strongly oppose SF180. The bill's language is extremely vague, and because of that, potentially extremely harmful. I completely endorse an individual's right to choose or refuse any medical treatment, including vaccination, but Iowa physicians need to be able to segregate patients according to their health needs and protect them from lethal infections. Iowa already faces a severe physician workforce shortage, and bills such as these only further discourage physicians from practicing in Iowa, due to fear of litigation. For the sake of Iowa physicians and patients, please vote no on this bill.

I cant understand why anyone wants this much governmental interference. Its a mistake. Let agencies decide whats best for themselves.

Please vote NO on SF 180! This bill threatens public health by banning employers from requiring critical safety measures during outbreaks. It would prevent healthcare facilities and employers from ensuring that workersespecially those interacting with vulnerable populationsstay home when ill or prove they arent contagious during outbreaks. This puts our most vulnerable at serious risk.

This is a dangerous bill! I am a nurse! Vote No! You think you have trouble getting healthcare workers now in Iowa? This bill will make healthcare flock to other states! Vote no

We need common sense legislation. I do not think this bill meets the criteria of a good bill. Public health requires measures be taken to protect the population. I do not agree with this bill.

Vote No on SF 180. As a nurse I am opposed to this bill. This will put peoples lives at risk. We do not know what the medical problems of the future will be. Putting rules in place for problems we do not yet know is a poor strategy.

Please vote OPPOSED to SF 180. The ongoing measles outbreak is a direct result of individuals choosing not to vaccinate their children, which is within their right. However, stating that businesses, or other entities, cannot require someone with measles to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) before entering infringes upon the rights of those businesses or entities to refuse service. My understanding is that my rights end where another persons begin. Every choice has consequences, including the possibility of denied access or PPE requirements. Balancing the rights of individuals is delicate, and this bill unfairly tilts the scale. I urge you to Vote No.

Now I'm all for "your body, your choice" but including PPE and wearing gloves as "discrimination"? Is the state prepared for every nurse in our hospitals to potentially be threatened with lawsuits? This bill needs a firm "no".

I oppose SF180. Public safety my safety is my concern. We must acknowledge that we've learned over time that vaccines have been beneficial for public health. And, in order to work, they need to be used by everyone who is able. Implementing measures for public safety are what governance is all about.

Vote NO to keep the most vulnerable safe. Colleagues should be confident the work place is safe. If an employees conscience says they should object to or refuse to follow a company rule or policy, the employee should be able to show evidence they are not contagious or stay home until the maximum incubation period is over and they show no sign of illness. The objector should never be able to put others who are working in health care in harms way and especially, not the patients. Vote No!

As a person who had mumps, measles, whooping cough, and polio, and whose brother was brain damaged from measles, I have seen the advantages of vaccinations. Exceptions to vaccinations should be few, fact based, and with the safety of the general population given the greatest consideration. While my brother was denied hospitalization because my father couldn't prove he could pay (though he always paid his bills), denying services for any reason is a violation of the Hippocratic oath and a person should not be in the medical profession if not willing to treat everyone. When my brother was denied he had a fever of 108. My father was given medical advice however. He was told to use ice baths to try and lower the fever and to keep my mother away because she was pregnant with me and watching her son die could cause her to miscarry. My brother's brain damage left him with epilepsy and a tendency to outbursts of violence for little cause. I slept with a knife as a child. My brother was not allowed to attend school because his seizures scared the girls. He was committed to Woodward and later Cherokee. Advances in medication eventually allowed him to control his seizures and temper and he worked in a sawmill for 30 years and retired at a salary of $9.50. For almost 80 years the government has paid for his medications and other aspects of his disabilities. I say this to suggest that refusing medical care for any reason is bad policy. It is harmful to the person and leads to greater expense in the long run. Let's not do this bill. Keep us safe from disease. Thank you.

I oppose this bill.I have worked in hospitals, clinics, skilled facilities and home health. In doing this for many years and also during the Covid outbreak I have been required to do many of these things.(remember do no harm) I never once questioned them because I would not purposely cause injury to anyone of my patients. In working in home health during Covid there were medical workers who did not get immunized for one reason or another against Covid when the vaccine became available. Those individuals were the ones though, who followed the protocol for protection for themselves and their patients exactly, wearing appropriate masks , gowns etc and getting tested when they had any symptoms. This was because we found out that if anyone of our patients had even a minor complaint of not feeling up to their usual self, the person had Covid, 9 times out of 10. For the elderly population Covid could be deadly. Anyone working with elderly patients at this time was very well aware of this. Protection and care of the patients we served should be a priority for any health care worker. I oppose SF180

I am opposed to the SF 180. I believe that the business or nonprofit should be able to make its own decision regarding Personal Protection items for its employees. Such a decision should not be made by legislators. Making the right decision is specific to how risky the situation is. I consider this a violation of freedom for employers in IowaMarcia Keyser, Des Moines.

This puts our most vulnerable at serious risk. The most vulnerable deserve safety, too.

You all have gone completely banana pants. Medical facilities should be places where people go for treatment and healing. Not places where they go to be exposed to infectious diseases. No one has to be coerced into taking a vaccine against their will. But those who are not willing to be vaccinated need to find employment in careers that do not require it. Can you imagine exposing a child with cancer to a respiratory virus that leads to their death? Or giving a laboring mom Hepatitis? What's next? Allowing surgeons to skip washing their hands as a matter of conscience? Please do not allow health care providers to spread the filth and contamination of disease in medical settings. Keep our hospitals and clinics hygienic and clean.
