I strongly oppose Senate File 507, which seeks to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. DEI initiatives promote fairness, reduce bias, and ensure all Iowans have equitable opportunities. Prohibiting these programs would undermine efforts to build inclusive communities and address systemic inequities.DEI programs provide essential training that helps organizations recognize and mitigate biases, creating fairer hiring practices and inclusive workplaces. They empower local governments to tailor policies that meet the needs of their diverse populations. Removing these initiatives diminishes our ability to foster collaboration, understanding, and economic growth.Furthermore, limiting DEI programs sends a harmful message that Iowa is not committed to fairness and inclusion. It disregards the experiences of marginalized communities and weakens the progress made toward social and economic equity.Local governments should have the freedom to implement policies that strengthen communities and support all residents. I urge you to reject SF 507 and instead champion initiatives that promote equity, opportunity, and unity across Iowa.
