Please allow us to have hard topped dock roofs as the material ones are constantly blowing off and pose a danger for swimmers and voters.

I'm a constituent who believes it should be up to the homeowner to choose the materials of construction for their enclosure as long as the materials are safe to use

As a constituent of Iowa, I think there should be a wider range of choice in the construction of dock enclosures that include sturdy materials provided they are safe and rust resistant. Limiting the options to soft roofs seems arbitrary as Iowa is the only state to do this.

Lets change the administrative code on dock enclosures to align with the other 49 states. There is a very valid reason they have approved hard rustproof materials.

Allows choice of hardened, rustproof materials on enclosures for private docks.Iowa is the only state to mandate soft enclosures on residential docks within state managed waters. A change to the administrative code aligns Iowa with the other 49 statesI personally own a property on a canal at Lake Manawa that includes an original covered 2 well dock that is constructed of lumber and asphalt shingles. This feature adds great value to my property and is easily maintained and withstands the variable weather conditions we have in Iowa. It conforms to neighborhood.

Current code requires cloth or fabric roof but there is no apparent or logical reason why. Iowa is the only state in all of United States that requires cloth roofing on docks. Iowa lakes are no different than other states and are definitely less prevalent. Enclosed metal roofs provide better protection, longer roof life and enhanced aesthetics with overall better quality. Current cloth roofing requirements allows for increased roof deterioration and subsequent debris in water areas. New language with code changes will enhance personal dock liability insurance requirements that should alleviate any financial concerns. A trip to other states such as Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri will provide a glimpse of superior dock enclosures that are prevalent and shows that docks with hardened, rust proof materials are accepted as the premium dock roofing material of choice. Again, there is no justification for current code that requires soft enclosures on state managed waters in Iowa.Thank you for your consideration to change the current code.

While I currently reside in Omaha, I am an Iowa property owner and taxpayer. I support this amendment to allow rust proof metal roofing on docks in the state of Iowa. They last longer, look better and are less prone to wind damage. All other states allow metal roofing on docks. Thank you, Jerry Banks

The fact this hasn't already been taken care of is just another example to me of unnecessary red tape and inefficiency in government. I hope, now that this issue has been brought to the attention of legislators, that we are finally able to address it on the basis of common sense. This has caused needless stress & limitations on the residents of Carter Lake, a community of recreational boaters, for far too long. Thank you to each of you for considering this legislation.
