I am urging you to vote no on this bill because it is unconstitutionally vague and creates a chilling effect on First Amendment protected activities. While it is worth while to not want private individuals to be doxxed, this bill is too vague in its language and can potentially criminalize Iowa residents for simply publicly identifying where individuals work, particularly individuals who work for the government. The people have right to know who works for the government, and should not fear being criminally investigated for posting public records, which this bill could enable.

This is blatantly unconstitutional, criminalizing being mean to someone online. If this passes out of subcommittee, this committee will be a laughing stock.

My name is Daniel Kauble and I am from Iowa City. I oppose this proposed changed to Iowas harassment code because the vague wording regarding personal information would make it much difficult for the public to engage in public online discourse regarding corrupt, incompetent and/or biased public officials.

This bill, in its current text, can and will be used to criminalize criticism of public officials. As a public official myself, I recognize the importance of being accountable to the public for my actions in an official capacity.
