HSB 53 flies in the face of any sense of academic freedom, and its passage would jeopardize the already falling stature of Iowa's universities nationally. this obsessive DEI witch hunt from the legislature has only pushed researchers and students to leave the state, or simply not attend Iowa schools in the first place. I am a recent PhD graduate of an Iowa regents university, and I already have plans to leave. vote no on HSB 53

This feels like a waste of time. I thought we were working on lowering the price of eggs? Or does fascistic policing of our education system come first?

Dear Representatives: Any job that deals with members of the public should definitely involve knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, and personal biases. This knowledge and these words should not be prohibited in any way. Being uncomfortable in learning about these things doesnt mean the knowledge youre hearing is bad or wrong, it is part of the learning process. I believe that all of us should always be learning new things, and I try to keep learning at 77 years old! I definitely oppose HSB 53! Rita Carter
