The EPA has been court ordered to reevaluate their stance on glyphosate causing cancer. The court concluded that EPA flouted its own Cancer Guidelines and ignored the criticisms of its own experts. EPA's "not likely to cause cancer" conclusion was inconsistent with the evidence before it, in the form of both epidemiological studies (realworld cancer cases) and lab animal studies. In addition to its lack of conclusion as to nonHodgkin's lymphoma risk (the cancer most tied to glyphosate), the court also concluded that EPA's general "no cancer" decision was divorced from its own Guidelines and experts when EPA selectively discounted evidence that glyphosate causes tumors in animals.Also a study from the University of Washington found that exposure to glyphosate increased an individuals risk of nonHodgkins lymphoma by 41%. Monsanto has settled over 100,000 Roundup lawsuits, paying out about $11 billion as of May 2022. There are still 30,000 lawsuits pending. On January 26, 2024, a jury in Philadelphia handed down a verdict awarding $2.25 billion. On October 31, 2023, a San Diego jury awarded Mike Dennis of Carlsbad, CA $332 million.This bill should not be allowed until the lawsuits are finalized and the EPA has finished their court ordered review. Vote no on SSB3188.
