Rep. Shipley needs to stop making defamatory statements. His baseless and misleading accusations about Sara Hayden Parris are causing his misinformed followers to think that Sara is actually doing something illegal. He is irresponsible and dangerous. Please hold him accountable.

Jeff Shipley, as a lawmaker, should be an example to others. He should follow the law and not make misleading statements about people with whom he disagrees. Defamation is against the law. Our legislators should show decorum and maturity. Please hold him accountable for his actions.

Rep Shipley IS and should be held to a higher standard of behavior as an elected official. His words hold authority when misused to falsely claim illegal acts by someone he simply disagrees with. He has slandered and defamed Ms Parris and should be condemned by the Iowa House for his actions. Be better, Rep. Shipley.

Not only has Representative Shipley made defamatory remarks about Ms Parris, he continues to assert there is nothing inappropriate with his commentary and rages on with malicious intent against a private citizen. Shipley has demonstrated awareness that his remarks are false, yet continues to make increasingly inflammatory accusations against/about Ms Parris. His words are designed to incite others in his camp to do the same (or worse) and to chill the actions of those speaking out to refute his claims about her and shine a light on his impropriety. Shipley abuses the platform and power afforded him by his position. Do not allow him the latitude to continue such vile and unethical behavior.

Rep Shipley you claim that Sara is holding personal grudges. Those roles are reversed. Sara is simply trying to help with the freedom to read. Your defamation of her character will not be tolerated. Your sole purpose is to attack her and her organization and attempt to diminish already marginalized groups.

Jeff Shipley knows what he is saying is false and also, that this kind of false, inflammatory speech has led to violence. He should be sanctioned as he apparently will not denounce his false statements. Elected representatives should be held to standards.

We expect that those who have been elected to represent us would do so with the upmost care. We live in a society that seems to be moving further from decency and that is because people like Mr. Shipley think just because you have a disagreement with someone that it is ok to make defamatory statements about them. That is not ok.Mr. Shipley needs to be held accountable. We need to send a message that this is not ok.

Jeff needs to be held accountable for his abusive, condescending tactics on educators, books, and all of the demeaning actions he has been involved in. His abuse stretches across many borders. He is no expert but tries to bully his views onto others by his hateful acts that only try to serve as a way to dumb down the next generation. He is unethical and needs to be held accountable NOW! If he is not, I would advise lawsuits to occur against the state for allowing his behavior.

Sara Parris is my wife and we have two children. Mr. Shipley's continued lies about Sara and the work she does is problematic. It has caused me concerns for her safety and the safety of my family. Mr. Shipley must be held accountable for the lies he continues to make and for using his status as a Representative to spread those lies further. Please help restore a sense of decorum and help Mr. Shipley understand that this behavior is not acceptable from Iowa's elected officials.

Its interesting how some think freedom of speech only goes one way. I have been at the Capitol this year and our legislators seem to be increasingly under personal attack. I support Representative Shipley and am sorry he is having to go through this process.

Interesting comments here. I'd imagine this is far less defamatory than Senator Donahue posting photos of our children last year, calling us defamatory names. Ethics decided she could post as she wished. Representative Shipley stated facts, in communication back and forth with Parris.This was not defamation.

Sarah Hayden Paris has plastered pictures of many, along with character assassinations. If anyone needs to be charged with defamation, its Sarah. Jeff Shipley is a brilliant voice for the Iowa people. He cares about all Iowans. He speaks truth and i hope freedom of speech is protected in our state.

I am thankful for the heroes in our legislature that are willing to stand for truth in spite of the vitriol and attacks they receive on a daily basis. It is inappropriate to make remarks, claims or allegations about someone or their organization that are not factually correct. Sarah has made defamatory remarks, libelous claims against myself, my organization and others who stand in truth including those who serve in our state house. Those who make an honest attempt to defame someone for standing in truth shall be held accountable. Lies will never supersede what is truth.

The group attacking Rep. Shipley are attention seeking, agitators who are constantly slandering legislators, community and school board members who want common sense in education to protect children. If this legislature did not feel it was necessary to discipline Molly Donahue last session when she posted a picture with children posing with the governor and slandering them as homophobic, racist, Nazis, xenophobes then certainly Shipleys comments about a person who actively distributes sexually explicit material to children should be dismissed.

I support representative Shipley. He made an accurate statement about a person SHP who is bragging all over social media about how she supposedly is providing allegedly banned obscene books which, in and of itself is a lie there are no banned books to minor children. Maybe she should stop claiming she is doing that.
