In SF265 the deadline of August 15th, 2021 for a written request to have a student retained in their 20202021 grade level seems too late for districts to adequately plan for student/teacher class assignments. Class assignments are typically released in the first week of August. As an elementary parent in a large district (Ankeny) I am concerned that the district could be scrambling to adjust students and class size increases could be the result if the district doesn't have enough time to plan out how many sections of each grade they need. The district tries to cap class size at 25 and I would hate to see more than 25 students per class as that impacts the quality of education if educators are spread too thin. I would like to see you consider changing that date to July 1st to ensure planning time is provided to school districts so students aren't negatively impacted.
