PRESENTATION OF IRISH DIGNITARY

Frevert of Palo Alto and Jenkins of Black Hawk presented to the
House, John Dennehy, T.D., (FF) member of the Irish Parliament
from Togher, Cork, Ireland. He was presented with a gift of
appreciation for coming to visit Iowa. Mr. Dennehy is the vice-
chairman of the Dail’s Public Accounts Comm. He is a member and
the Government Whip on its Finance and Public Services Committee
and a member of the Health Committee. He was accompanied by his
wife, Philomena and is the honored guest of the Forty-first Annual St.
Patrick’s Day Celebration in Emmetsburg.

Frevert of Palo Alto and Jenkins of Black Hawk escorted Mr.
Dennehy to the Speaker’s station where he addressed the House
briefly regarding the political structure of Ireland and its economy
and that he enjoyed visiting the schools in Iowa.

The House rose and expressed its welcome.

BILLS SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR

A communication was received from the Governor announcing that
on March 14, 2001, he approved and transmitted to the Secretary of
State the following bills:

House File 154, an act concerning paid time off for certain peace officer members of
the department of public safety injured in the course of duty.

House File 230, an act amending the strategic planning duties of the Iowa economic
development board.

House File 286, an act permitting cooperative associations to deal with
nonmembers, to use fictitious names, and to issue memberships without charge; to
permit electric cooperatives to have multiple classes of members; and providing an
effective date.

House File 325, an act relating to regulation of multiple employer welfare
arrangements by the commissioner of insurance, repealing the future repeal date for
such regulation, and providing an effective date.

Senate File 279, an act relating to allocation and payment of expenses arising from
performance of duties by the Iowa utilities board and the consumer advocate, providing
for a report by the Iowa utilities board, and providing an effective date.
