PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE FILE 2116 1 2 1 3 AN ACT 1 4 RELATING TO THE PRESERVATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE STATE 1 5 CAPITOL. 1 6 1 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 1 8 1 9 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 18A.6A CAPITOL PRESERVATION 1 10 OF ARCHITECTURAL AND HISTORIC INTEGRITY. 1 11 1. A state agency, branch of government, or any other 1 12 entity responsible for a construction, remodeling, 1 13 restoration, maintenance, or other project in, on, or on the 1 14 grounds surrounding the capitol shall ensure that the project 1 15 preserves and enhances the dignity, beauty, and architectural 1 16 and historic integrity of the capitol. 1 17 2. A project described in subsection 1 may vary from the 1 18 architectural or historic integrity of the capitol if such 1 19 variance is necessary to comply with state or federal laws 1 20 relating to building accessibility or occupational safety or 1 21 health, to address life safety issues, or for other compelling 1 22 reasons. However, the state agency, branch of government, or 1 23 other entity responsible for a project involving a variance 1 24 from the architectural or historic integrity shall submit the 1 25 plans for such project to the capitol planning commission and 1 26 the capital projects committee of the legislative council for 1 27 review. 1 28 1 29 1 30 1 31 MARY E.
