1 1 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 13, Code Supplement
1 2 2001, is amended by adding the following new unnumbered
1 3 paragraph:
1 4 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. A school placed on a special
1 5 accredited list of college preparatory schools in accordance
1 6 with this subsection shall be considered an accredited
1 7 nonpublic school for purposes of qualifying for state
1 8 financial assistance under chapters 285 and 301.
1 9 Sec. 2. Section 285.16, Code 2001, is amended to read as
1 10 follows:
1 11 285.16 "NONPUBLIC SCHOOL" DEFINED.
1 12 As used in this chapter, "nonpublic school" means those
1 13 nonpublic schools accredited by the department of education as
1 14 provided in section 256.11, including schools placed on a
1 15 special accredited list of college preparatory schools in
1 16 accordance with section 256.11, subsection 13, and nonpublic
1 17 institutions which comply with state board of education
1 18 standards for providing special education programs.
1 19 Sec. 3. Section 301.29, Code 2001, is amended to read as
1 20 follows:
1 21 301.29 "NONPUBLIC SCHOOL" DEFINED.
1 22 As used in this chapter, "nonpublic school" means those
1 23 nonpublic schools accredited by the department of education as
1 24 provided in section 256.11, including schools placed on a
1 25 special accredited list of college preparatory schools in
1 26 accordance with section 256.11, subsection 13.
1 27 EXPLANATION
1 28 This bill provides that a specially accredited college
1 29 preparatory school shall be considered an accredited nonpublic
1 30 school for purposes of state financial assistance for
1 31 textbooks and transportation.
