PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 514C.18, subsection 1, Code 2001, is 1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraphs: 1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Medications approved by the United 1 4 States food and drug administration for the control of blood 1 5 sugar levels, including insulin and oral agents, prescribed by 1 6 the patient's physician. 1 7 NEW PARAGRAPH. d. Equipment and supplies necessary for 1 8 insulin administration, including but not limited to syringes, 1 9 insulin pens, insulin pumps, and related equipment. 1 10 NEW PARAGRAPH. e. Assistive devices for those who are 1 11 visually impaired, including voice-modulated blood glucose 1 12 meters and injection aids. 1 13 NEW PARAGRAPH. f. Podiatric appliances for prevention of 1 14 complications associated with diabetes. 1 15 NEW PARAGRAPH. g. Podiatric health care provider services 1 16 as are deemed medically necessary to prevent complications 1 17 from diabetes. 1 18 NEW PARAGRAPH. h. Other medications, devices, appliances, 1 19 and equipment approved by the United States food and drug 1 20 administration for the treatment of diabetes or its 1 21 complications, and prescribed or recommended as medically 1 22 necessary by the patient's physician. 1 23 EXPLANATION 1 24 This bill amends Code section 514C.18, relating to 1 25 insurance coverage for diabetes. 1 26 The bill provides that a policy or contract providing for 1 27 third-party payment or prepayment of health or medical 1 28 expenses shall provide coverage for costs associated with 1 29 certain medications, equipment, and supplies for the treatment 1 30 of diabetes mellitus, if such items are prescribed by a 1 31 licensed physician. 1 32 LSB 5768SS 79 1 33 jj/cf/24
