  1 16 A Resolution recognizing the centennial of 4-H clubs.
  1 17    WHEREAS, 4-H is celebrating its 100th anniversary
  1 18 as one of the United States' finest youth development
  1 19 organizations; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, 4-H clubs exist in every one of Iowa's 99
  1 21 counties and in almost every one of the nation's 3,067
  1 22 counties; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, 4-H clubs have provided Iowa boys and
  1 24 girls with educational and leadership opportunities
  1 25 through the fundamental principle of "learning by
  1 26 doing" since the early 1900s; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, the idea for the 4-H club emblem, a four-
  1 28 leaf clover, was born in Clarion, Iowa, and came to
  1 29 symbolize a four-square education of educational,
  1 30 fellowship, physical, and moral development; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, the 4-H motto is "To make the best
  2  2 better"; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, 4-H clubs today offer youth opportunities
  2  4 in communications, leadership and career development,
  2  5 livestock, home improvement, and computer technology
  2  6 in rural and urban areas throughout the world; and
  2  7    WHEREAS, the State of Iowa takes great pride in the
  2  8 many accomplishments of 4-H clubs and their members
  2  9 and leaders in the state; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 10    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 11 That the House of Representatives gratefully
  2 12 acknowledges the contributions of 4-H to the state in
  2 13 general and to the youth of the state in particular,
  2 14 and extends congratulations to 4-H on its centennial;
  2 15 and
  2 16    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
  2 17 this Resolution be prepared and presented to the State
  2 18 4-H Council.
