  1  2                        BY  ALONS
  1  3 A Resolution congratulating the Men's and Women's
  1  4    Basketball Teams of Northwestern College of Orange
  1  5    City.
  1  6    WHEREAS, the Northwestern College Raiders Women's
  1  7 basketball team racked up a season of 32 wins and four
  1  8 losses, and were seeded second in the National
  1  9 Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA)
  1 10 Division II National Championship Tournament; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the Northwestern College Raiders men's
  1 12 basketball team finished the year with a record of 29
  1 13 wins and six losses, and were seeded seventh in the
  1 14 NAIA Division II National Championship Tournament; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, on March 14, 2001, both teams bested
  1 16 opponents to win the NAIA Division II titles, with the
  1 17 Raiders women defeating eighth-seeded Albertson of
  1 18 Idaho, 77-50, and the Raiders men defeating 12th-
  1 19 seeded MidAmerican Nazarene of Kansas, 82-78; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, both Raiders head coaches received awards,
  1 21 with Coach Earl Woudstra being voted Women's National
  1 22 Coach of the Year and Coach Kris Korver being voted
  1 23 Men's National Coach of the Year; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, Raiders women brought home the awards for
  1 25 Women's National Player of the Year and National
  1 26 Tournament Most Valuable Player in Rachel Binneboese,
  1 27 who was also voted the All-American Scholar-Athlete
  1 28 for the second year in a row; three Raiders women made
  1 29 the All-Tourney Team: Jennifer Recker, Jaime Woudstra,
  1 30 and Sara Friedrichsen; and Jennifer Recker won the
  2  1 National Tournament Hustle Award for the second year
  2  2 in a row; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, Raiders men brought home awards for the
  2  4 National Tournament Most Valuable Player in Brandon
  2  5 Woudstra, and three men made the All-Tourney Team:
  2  6 Ben Gerleman, Brandon Jacobson, and Lance Reinke; NOW
  2  7 THEREFORE,
  2  8    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2  9 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
  2 10 Northwestern College Raiders Women's Basketball Team
  2 11 and the Northwestern College Raiders Men's Basketball
  2 12 Team, their coaches, Earl Woudstra and Kris Korver,
  2 13 and their coaching staffs, on their superlative
  2 14 seasons, thanks them for the honor and excitement they
  2 15 brought to the State of Iowa, and wishes them the very
  2 16 best in the future.
