1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY VAN FOSSEN
1 3 A Resolution congratulating the Quad-City Mallards
1 4 Hockey Team.
1 5 WHEREAS, the Quad-City Mallards are playing in
1 6 their sixth season as a franchise; and
1 7 WHEREAS, the Mallards have won 259 of their past
1 8 365 games; and
1 9 WHEREAS, on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, the Mallards
1 10 made professional hockey history by winning their 50th
1 11 regular-season game for the fifth straight season; and
1 12 WHEREAS, this achievement has surpassed the four
1 13 straight 50-win season records held by the National
1 14 Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins;
1 15 and
1 16 WHEREAS, items used in the game, and a team
1 17 picture, will be placed in the Hockey Hall of Fame in
1 18 Toronto; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the Mallards have accomplished this feat
1 20 under the direction of four different coaches, and
1 21 only two of the original players have been part of the
1 22 team during all five seasons of the streak; and
1 23 WHEREAS, the Mallards' desire and the ability to
1 24 excel has taken this team to a higher level, at which
1 25 each additional game won will set new standards for
1 26 the sport; and
1 27 WHEREAS, the individuals comprising the Mallards'
1 28 team and coach Paul MacLean have brought great
1 29 excitement and honor to the sport of hockey and the
1 30 citizens of Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
2 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 2 That the House of Representatives recognizes and
2 3 congratulates the Quad-City Mallards and Coach Paul
2 4 MacLean on their historic sports achievement, and
2 5 wishes them the best of luck in the future.
2 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 7 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
2 8 prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to
2 9 the Mallards and Coach Paul MacLean.
