1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY LARSON, VAN FOSSEN, BELL, RANTS, and SUKUP
1 3 A Resolution congratulating Maytag Corporation on being
1 4 named an Energy Star Partner of the Year.
1 5 WHEREAS, Energy Star is a voluntary partnership
1 6 between the United States Environmental Protection
1 7 Agency and the United States Department of Energy with
1 8 businesses and organizations nationwide, that helps
1 9 consumers to identify the most energy-efficient
1 10 products via Energy Star labeling; and
1 11 WHEREAS, 32 percent of Maytag's products, including
1 12 clothes washers, refrigerators, and dishwashers, are
1 13 Energy Star-rated, double the average for the United
1 14 States appliance industry; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Maytag provided promotional materials to
1 16 retailers, conducted advertising campaigns to
1 17 highlight the energy efficiency of its products,
1 18 cosponsored a study with the United States Department
1 19 of Energy that demonstrates energy and water savings,
1 20 and launched a five-city concert series promoting
1 21 energy efficiency; and
1 22 WHEREAS, over 600 home appliance centers in
1 23 Maytag's retail network signed on as Energy Star
1 24 retail partners, and Maytag's mobile marketing trucks
1 25 advertise the Energy Star message to consumers
1 26 throughout the year; and
1 27 WHEREAS, Maytag Corporation received the award from
1 28 Environmental Protection Agency Administrator
1 29 Christine Todd Whitman at a special ceremony in
1 30 Washington, D.C., on March 20, 2001; and
2 1 WHEREAS, Iowa citizens are justly proud of the
2 2 Maytag Corporation and its efforts to produce energy-
2 3 efficient and environmentally safe products, and are
2 4 pleased with the planned expansion of the Newton
2 5 facility to expand production capacity for the energy-
2 6 efficient Neptune and Atlantis washers and dryers, and
2 7 the product laboratories; NOW THEREFORE,
2 8 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 9 That the Maytag Corporation be congratulated for
2 10 achieving an Energy Star Partner of the Year Award,
2 11 and for its continuing dedication to the production of
2 12 innovative and energy-efficient home and commercial
2 13 appliances.
2 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 15 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall send
2 16 a copy of this Resolution to the Maytag Corporation at
2 17 its corporate headquarters in Newton, Iowa.
